Music as a tool

Through the millennia, Indian music has not only entertained the mind, but nourished the soul beyond compare. Sama Veda taught us the values of life with the help of undulating incantations. Our classical music took off from there and blended it all in the ‘sangam’ of melody, rhythm and meaning. Our saints added depth to the whole exercise with their beautiful prose and poetry brimming with devotional fervor and philosophy. Today, Indian music is respected for its immense impact on the human mind, cutting across geographic barriers. Some call it therapy, some others call it a soothing medium for the troubled body, mind and soul. Whatever be the terminology, music is amongst the most powerful tools that can help us attain value-based wellness.

Shastri Memorial Foundation takes pride in leveraging the power of music for the benefit of one and all. Its founder-trustee, Dr Srinivasan, is blessed with a strong foundation in music, which he has diligently developed over the decades. Dr Srinivasan obtained his Hindustani classical vocal training under the tutelage of late Pt Datta Kerkar and Pt Askaran Sharma. He was awarded the Surmani title by Sur Singar Samsad in the 1980s. He has been an AIR artiste for over a quarter century. He has also given live concerts all over India, including several sammelans, during the 1980s, which were reviewed very favorably by critics. He is now focusing on using music as a tool to convey Indian values through the lyrics of saints, self-composed in Hindustani classical ragas, and presented with commentaries in English, Hindi, Marathi and Tamil. He will feel privileged if you ask him to do a session for you and your friends.
