Pt K A Sivaramakrishna Shastri (1899-1984) was a man given to simple living and high thinking. He walked his talk throughout life: ‘if you want to think high, you have to live simple; if you lived high, you could only think simple’. He became a Shastri by learning, not by birthright. After retiring as faculty member at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, Pt Shastri was asked to take over the editorship of the encyclopedic effort on Sanksrit that was going on in Deccan College, Pune, for decades. He was honored with the Rashtrapati Award for lifetime contribution to Sanskrit and Indian values in 1977. Till his last breath, he was a true Karma Yogi, teaching, writing, thinking, and adding value to himself and others around him.
Shastriji and his wife Sharadaji were blessed with five sons and two daughters. The youngest of them, Dr S Srinivasan, established this foundation in 2001, with a view to serving the community in the areas of healthcare, education and human values.
Dr Srinivasan, MBBS, MD from Pune University, former faculty member at CWRU School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, former Senior Vice President, Aventis, has a standing of over four decades in healthcare and wellness. A natural orator, motivator and lifestyle coach, he has written five books on behavioral issues focusing on value based wellness. His musical proficiency is mentioned elsewhere in this website. Dr Srinivasan’s classmate-wife, Dr Usha, cancer pathologist, nature lover, watercolor artiste and humanist, has been with him in every sense of the word for decades. |
