Globalization is an irreversible reality today. It is welcome in so for as it opens doors of opportunity which would have been otherwise closed. It is also good for us as it keeps our mental windows open alongside. Above all, no individual or nation can remain insulated from the goings on elsewhere as it will mean stagnation and eventual decay.

Having said that, it is important for us to pause and reflect on the direction we are moving in the new global village of the new millennium. Socio-economic turbulences are a fact of life and one wouldn’t resent that. But if they start eroding fundamental human value systems with alarming frequency, then there is cause for concern, as values are the bedrock of our very existence and have to be permanent and non-negotiable.

It may sound clichéd (clichés are reflections of truth after all), but our well-being ought to depend on our value systems, not merely on gizmos and gadgets. Material comfort, prosperity and freedom are fine but they should not drive away time-tested values. They need not either. But somehow, that’s what seems to be happening of late. An example is the value-less free-for-all we see in the media in the name of freedom of cultural expression while the truth is that relentless commerce is hijacking our behavior and thinking.

We strongly believe that wellness in body, mind and soul is and ought to be the true meaning of living. That is possible only by building and maintaining a strong base of unshakeable values. Shastri Memorial Foundation tries to facilitate this process in its own limited, humble way.
